Car Insurance Eagle (Car Insurance). How good is a "3.4L V6 SFI" Engine and what does it mean.?

How good is a "3.4L V6 SFI" Engine and what does it mean.? What does 3.4L, V6, and SFI mean when talking about an engine. How good is it compared to other cars? I'm buying my first vehicle and do not understand cars at all.

3.4 liter is the displacement of the engine, V6 is the number and arrangement of the cylinders (6 pistons in a V pattern) SFI stands for Sequential Fuel Injection. This is a GM engine if I am correct and a decent engine, however I am sure it is one of the engines GM had DEX cool issues with so be cautious there and ask about it. Other than that they are decent engines and very torquey T.C is right indeed. But for a more simple explanation...its one that makes a loud noise, goes fast and is NOT very good for fuel consumption. 3.4 liter size of engine v6 arangement of the cylinders 3 on one side 3 on the other like a v

Eagle . How to Use Jack Stands on a Truck

While using jack stands on trucks or any other vehicle seems like simple common sense, misuse or not paying attention to detail can lead to hazardous or fatal conditions. All jacks and jack stands feature weight limitations; never use a jack on a truck that is heavier than the weight limit of the jack. Where you place the jack stands and how you use other safety equipment is also extremely important.
Difficulty:Moderate
Instructions Things You'll Need
Wheel wedges
Suitable weight-rated jack
Suitable weight-rated jack stands

Step by Step :
1
Park the truck on a level and paved ground.
2
Apply the parking brake; but understand that if the rear axle is lifted, the parking brake hold will be ineffective.
3
Place wheel wedges in front and behind the same tire on the opposite axle you intend to lift and suspend on floor jacks. This is an added measure to prevent the truck from moving while you are underneath it.
4
Use the suitable weight-rated jack to lift one corner of the axle you're lifting at a time. The front frame rail or lower control arms and the rear axle or lower shock mounts are usually safe lift points for most trucks.
5
With the corner raised, place the properly weight-rated jack stand under the truck. If using the front control arm, place the jack stand under the front frame rail. Make sure the lower control arm does not suspend at an angle on the front tire and cause uneven placement on the jack stand when supporting the truck.
6
When raising the rear, place the jack stand(s) below the rear axle. Make sure the seat of the jack stand is away from any steel brake lines so they are not damaged. You can raise the jack stand by pulling up on the arm seats to the desired level. Be sure each jack stand on the same axle is set in equal height.
7
Lower the corner of the truck slowly. Repeat the procedure for the opposite side of the axle. If you are lifting all four corners, start in the front with the parking brake of the truck applied, and use four wheel wedges to lock one front and one rear wheel from both sides.
8
When you're ready to lower the truck to the ground, slightly lift the jack, one corner at a time, then remove the appropriate jack stand. Slowly lower the jack after the jack stand is removed; repeat the procedure for the opposite jack stand on the same axle. If lifting all four corners of the truck, lower the rear first, with the parking brake applied, and then lower the front.
Tips & Warnings
On asphalt driveways, placing a 3/4-inch or thicker hardwood plyboard beneath the jack stand is highly recommended. The sharp metal corners of the jack stands can easily sink into the asphalt, especially on warm days. Make sure the board is big enough to cover the base and legs of the jack stands.

You can use the jack to help support the truck, but never allow the jack to be your support without using a jack stand. Hydraulic and scissor jacks, no matter what the weight rating, can fail---leading to serious or fatal injury. Underhoist jacks are used in conjunction with vehicle lifts. They can support and manipulate components such as the rear axle when you are replacing shocks or other components that may hang down. Never use an underhoist jack to off-balance the weight of the truck from its support on the vehicle lift.

Eagle . How to Narrow a Rear End

When building a custom car or truck, sometimes you want to run a wider wheel in the back and you don't have the room to do it. One easy way to do it is to narrow the rear end, which gives you extra room for rims. Doing this can be challenging, and requires extra work, but the end result is worth it. This project vehicle is an axle from a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, but the process is similar for other vehicles.
Difficulty:Moderately Challenging
Instructions Things You'll Need
Chop saw with metal blade
MIG Welder
4 1/2-inch angle grinder with grinding disc
Jack
Jack stands
3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
Drain pan
Straight edge
Permanent marker

Step by Step :
1
Jack up the axle and place it on jack stands.
2
Unbolt the brake calipers from the axle using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set.
3
Slide the rotors off of the rear end using your hands and set them to the side.
4
Unbolt the differential cover using the 3/8-inch ratchet. The differential fluid will drain out at some point so have the drain pan ready.
5
Unbolt the bolt that holds onto the locking pin on the axle using the 3/8-inch ratchet. The locking pin will then slide out of the differential, so place it to the side.
6
Push in the end of the axles and pull the c-clips out of the axle ends at the differential. At this point, the axle shafts are free and can be pulled out of the housing. Take the shaft out as straight as possible so that you don't screw up the axle seals.
7
Mark the axle the amount you want to narrow the axle using the permanent marker. Typically, you want your cuts to be inboard of the leaf spring mounts, but not directly at the differential. Place a straight edge on the top of the axle and mark a line across the top of the axle using the marker. This will be an alignment point for the cut so that you make sure the axle stubs don't twist in the process.
8
Place the axle on the chop saw and make sure that the axle is at a 90-degree angle to the cutting blade. This step is critical, so be sure you've got it set up correctly.
9
Cut the axle using the chop saw. Cut it in both places where you marked it using the chop saw.

Step by Step :
10
Grind a 45-degree angle into the axle housing and the cut off ends. What you're doing is making it so that when you push the two pieces together, it forms a "V" shape with the bottom of the V points towards the center of the axle. This is going to give you a good spot to weld to.

Step by Step :
11
Hold the axle stub to the axle housing using your hands and align the horizontal mark you made in step 7 so that the two marks line up.

Step by Step :
12
Tack weld the axle together using the MIG welder. A tack weld is a temporary weld that doesn't require a lot of welding time and isn't a full bead. In this case, you'll pull the trigger for maybe two seconds, giving a thick weld to the axle. Do this around the outside of the axle in four places.

Step by Step :
13
Hold the straight edge on the axle to ensure that it's perfectly straight. If the axle is twisted or tilted one way or another, you'll go through axle seals and have vibration issues.

Step by Step :
14
Weld the axle using short beads, 2 inches long at a time. Rotate the axle and weld one section, then weld another on the opposite side, so as not to build up heat.

Step by Step :
15
Place the axle shafts in a box and send them off to a machine shop to be shortened. The axle shafts have machined ends that can't just be cut and welded together---they have to be machined.

Step by Step :
16
Reassemble the axle once the axle shafts come back from machining in the reverse order of disassembly.

6. When you're finished working, lower the vehicle to the ground. If you're using a tripod or scissor jack, simply turn the crank in the opposite direction. If you're using a hydraulic jack, use the rod to turn the pressure release valve. The jack will do the rest of the work for you. 2Q Part I: Getting Started. Hout to Change a Tire Even if you're a member of the AAA or CAA, there's always a chance that you'll find yourself stuck with a flat tire on a remote road with no telephone in sight. On these occasions, all traffic generally vanishes, leaving you help less unless you know how to change a tire yourself. Remoitinq a hubcap If you have an older car that still has hubcaps (instead of the wheel covers on more recent models), the first task in changing a tire — after you pull to the side of the road and finish banging the heel of your hand against the steering wheel in frustration — is to remove the hubcap of the injured tire. The following steps tell you how: 1. Use a screwdriver or the flat end of a lug wrench (see Figure 2-20 in Chapter 2) to pry off the hubcap. Just insert the point of the tool where the edge of the cap meets the wheel, and apply a little leverage (see Figure 1-3). The cap should pop off. You may have to do this in a couple of places; it's like prying the lid off a can of paint. . Chapter 1: Things Every Driver Should Know O 1 Figure 1-3: You can use a screwdriver to pry a hubcap loose. 2. Lay the cap on its back so that you can put the lug nuts into it to keep them from rolling away and heading for the nearest sewer. After you remove the hubcap, the next task is to loosen the lug nuts. Loosening the tug nuts

Lug nuts are those big nuts that hold the wheel in place. Most garages retighten them with a power tool, and unless you've done the job yourself by hand, they're going to be pretty hard to loosen. (Take my advice in Chapter 2 and buy a cross-shaft lug wrench. Figure 2-20 shows what one looks like.) Before you begin, you have to ascertain whether the lug nuts on the wheel you're working on are right-hand threaded or left-hand threaded. This isn't a "left-handed hammer" joke; the threads determine which way you turn the wrench. The lug nuts on the right side of a vehicle are always right-hand threaded, but the nuts on the left side may be left-hand threaded. Look at the lug nuts on your car; in the center of the lugs you should see an R, an L, or no letter at all: I V A lug with an R or with no letter is right-threaded. Turn it counterclockwise to loosen it.
